They all had a fantastic time playing at the AR Slide Party. I am so proud of everyone. Their STAR tests all improved and they are breezing through chapter books! Keep reading throughout the whole summer to continue to strengthen your reading skills. :-)

CONGRATULATIONS TO GRACIE BARNER, COY BELL, DALTON JORDAN, MARY TAYLOR MAY, SYDNEY SCOTT, AND ALLYN WILSON FOR REACHING THEIR GOALS!! Keep reading and taking test. Just because you reached your goal doesn't mean you should stop taking tests. I did tell the kids that they can get a chapter book. I don't expect them to test on those because they can be hard. If they choose a book that is in their range and is not a chapter book, they should take a test.

We have 3 weeks left and most of you are very close. Please check the AR goal sheet that I send home every Friday to see about how many more books you have left. A few of you need to start reading and taking test more frequently so that you won't be rushed to reach your goal in that last 9 week.

Due to us not being at school last week, we totally missed a week of AR tests. Everyone must take at least 2 tests a week. Some of you need to take 3 tests a week in order to reach your goal. We have 6 weeks left including this week. You can do it!!!! :-)

We will get new books and bookmarks on Monday and the children can start taking tests on Tuesday. They all did very well on their Star Tests. I am very proud of their improvements. :-) We have exactly 9 weeks for them to reach their goals. I will send home their goals on Monday as well.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DALTON JORDAN AND DANIEL ROMANOV FOR REACHING THEIR GOALS!! There are 3 weeks left to take tests. Keep up the good work. Due to the inconvenience of our computers being unable to take AR tests for a few weeks, I have decided to lower some children's goals since they didn't get to take test as often as they wanted to. I won't do this every time but since it was out of our and your control, I decided change some goals. Everyone should be able to reach their goals by Christmas Break.

Even though our internet has been down I have been bringing my computer with internet to school so we can take AR tests. I am so proud of everyone. They are doing so well on their tests. Remember: your child should take at least 2 tests a week in order to reach their goals. Keep on testing!

Since today is the start of the new nine weeks, we will begin taking tests that count. Everything will work the same with you signing your initials and then circling them when they are ready to take a test. The only thing that is different will be that the tests count and will not be deleted. On Fridays I will send home a paper letting your child and you know about how many more books they will need to read to reach their goals. Tomorrow I will send that information along with more information about AR.

Accelerated Reader
The children began checking out books according to the results of the Star testing. Each child will get a bookmark with their ZPD. It gives their reading range. We will start at the lower end of the range and work our way to the harder books. The children will bring home their library books every night to read with you. They are to bring them back to school each day. We will have time set aside first thing every morning to read to ourselves from our books. Sometime next week we will begin taking tests on the computer. This first 9 weeks will be practice for us. The tests won't count. At the end of the 9 weeks Mrs. Hinson will delete all the tests we've taken and we will start for real the next 9 weeks. ( A good thing....The children will be able to retake the tests they took the 1st 9 weeks!) I have more information for you that I will post later as well as some information that will come home in the folders.
REMEMBER: AR WILL NOT OFFICIALLY START OR COUNT UNTIL THE NEXT NINE WEEKS. THIS WILL BE FOR PRACTICE.

Parents,
Starting
today, we will be taking AR tests. There will be a folder with a calendar in it
that will be sent home every day where you can initial that your child has read
to you or another adult on the date. We will be reading at school as well but
it will be your final say whether your child is ready for a new book. On the
day that your child reads to you just initial that day to let me know that they
read at home. If you feel they have read to you and understand their book, then
circle your initials for that day and the following day your child returns to
school, they will be allowed to get a new book. My one rule is that they are
not allowed to get a new book the very next day. This past week was a practice
time for them. If you have any questions, email me or check the AR spot on my
blog.

on the 9th so the 10th would be test day on your child’s
library book.
