Play Change of Plans
Change of plans for the play next Friday: It will now only be 4-12. They are afraid it may be a little much for 3rd and under, so do not worry about sending the $2. I will return the $2 to those who have paid already.

Flat Stanley
REMEMBER: ADDRESSES DUE MONDAY!!

An activity that is lots of fun for first graders and involves so many aspects of the curriculum is the Flat Stanley Project.  It involves many skills:  listening, writing, language, reading, social studies, geography, and map skills.

I will read the story Flat Stanley to the children this week. The story is about a boy named Stanley who is flattened by a bulletin board one night as he sleeps.  In the story, Stanley wants to visit friends in California, but his family can't afford to send him by normal means of transportation. However, they come up with the idea of mailing him, which they do.

We will color, cut out, and laminate pictures of Flat Stanley.  We want to send these to three friends or relatives around the country, or even around the world.  We want them to take him with them to places they go, take pictures, and send him back to us with information about his visit along with the pictures.  We also ask them to send information about the area and state in which they live.
I need you to send the names and addresses of three people or families, and to send three 6"X 9" envelopes and three stamps.  The children will complete a friendly letter explaining our project.  Then they will address the three envelopes, write their return address, and place the stamps on the envelopes.  I will put the letters in the mail.  And then we wait for the Flat Stanleys to return.  (:

I have a letter that I sent home last week that says basically the same thing that I have posted here.  Also, I sent home the form that you will need for listing three people that will receive the Flat Stanleys.  Please print clearly.  The children will have to read your writing as they address these letters.  Also, please use capital letters when appropriate.

PLEASE CHECK THE FIELD TRIP TAB. WE WILL BE GOING ON A FIELD TRIP IN MARCH AND MONEY IS DUE FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28.
