Oral Reading Grades
Since this is the first Oral Reading grade of the new nine weeks, I thought I would explain what everything means.
Now fluency counts and they are only given 1 minute to read the small story. I also am listening for decoding ability (sounding out words), pace they read, syntax (order of words read), self correction of words, and intonation (expression when they read and see certain ending marks). If the minute ended before they finished reading, the words they didn't read are considered errors. Also if they insert words, it is considered an error.

I am sorry if I haven't emailed you back quickly this week. We are having Internet problems and I have brought my Internet from home (tether) and the kids are usually using my computer to take tests. I haven't been able to check email until I get back home. If you need to let me know something, send me a note in your child's folder.
